چکیده

The quantum Density Functional Theory (DFT) model of a single atom vacancy on the basal graphite surface is first validated through comparison of the theoretical vibrational spectra of the fully hydrogenated defect with the corresponding High Resolution Energy Loss Spectroscopy (HREELS) spectra. We then proceed to investigate atmospheric molecules adsorption on vacancy defects on the (0001) graphite surface. Carbon dioxide and nitrogen have no interaction with the defect whereas carbonmonoxide is incorporated into the vacancy with an activation energy of 1.5 eV.Water dissociates with a barrier of 1.6 eV, forming an adsorbed hydroxyl radical. Molecular oxygen dissociates with a very low barrier (0.2 eV). 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 68.43. h; 31.15.Ew; 81.05.Uw; 82.40. g

Non-Dissociative Gas Adsorption with Different Chemisorption Geometries on Nanoporous Surfaces

Isotherm equation is one of the important scientific bases for adsorbent selection. There are different isotherms that do not account for an adsorbate, different chemisorption geometries on the nanoporous surface. It is interesting to introduce a general isotherm, which considers different chemisorption geometries of an adsorbate on nanoporous surfaces. In this study, an isotherm for non-dissoci...

Hydrogen adsorption by g-C3N4 and graphene oxide nanosheets

The adsorption behavior of hydrogen for synthesized graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and graphene oxide nanosheets was compared. The structure of the prepared g-C3N4 and graphene oxide samples were studied using TEM, FT-IR spectroscopy and surface area analysis. Textural results of the prepared nanosheets show that the surface area, total pore volume, and average internal diameter of g-C3N4 an...

TPD study of the reaction of CH3CH2SH and (CH3CH2)2S2 on ZnO(0001) and ZnO

Temperature programmed desorption (TPD) was used to study the reaction of CH3CH2SH and (CH3CH2)2S2 on the (0001) and surface of ZnO. The interaction of these molecules with ZnO was found to be structure-sensitive. Both the thiol and disulfide adsorbed dissociatively on ZnO(0001) forming adsorbed ethylthiolate intermediates, while only molecularly on ZnO. This result indicates that exposed catio...

the CO, HCN, H2O and H2CO molecules.

Detailed semi-empirical interaction potential calculations are performed to determine the potential energy surface experienced by the molecules CO, HCN, H2O and H2CO, when adsorbed on the basal plane (0001) of graphite at low temperature. The potential energy surface is used to find the equilibrium site and configuration of a molecule on the surface and its corresponding adsorption energy. The ...
